The flag bearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has spat venom again by criticizing the size of President Akufo-Addo’s government.
He charged the president to live up to his campaign promise of working to protect the public purse through the adoption of a lean government.
He has indicated on several occasions that the current government, can reduce the size of his government up to 40 ministers as those ones are not needed and a drain on the public purse. If the 40 ministries should be scrapped that will bring the number to 83 ministries to save scare resources for pressing needs of the country.
The former president indicated that he will quash all the “unnecessary” ministries created by the Akuffo Addo led government. This he believes will not only save the public purse but will also lead to high-level efficiency and deal with the duplication of ministries.
Mahama made this know that the NDC party campaign to raise funds for Election 2020 activities of the party. He revealed that he was committed to a lean government and will implement the same if he wins the 2020 general elections.
For others the Akufo-Addo’s ministers are useless assertions are baseless given that, it reduces the task of the minister and gives room for efficiency and effectiveness
According to the former president, there is the need to avoid wastage of state funds and one way of achieving that is to cut down the size of government. The NDC flagbearer added that, when voted into power, he will merge ministries including the Ministry of Aviation, Ministry of Railways and Transport.
While addressing party faithful at the launch of the fundraising campaign, he said: “As I said, President Akufo-Addo, can disperse with more than 40 ministries and he will not make any difference with the lackluster performance”.
The government led by H.E Nana Addo has been lashed and criticized for having 123 ministers which put pressure on the resources of the state. Former President Mahama added that ministries he will scrap and dissolve include, Procurement, Business Development, Special Initiatives, Monitoring and Evaluation among others.
The former President said, the NDC’s “People Manifesto 2020” will include and address problems of this nation. He also pledged to lead a government that will not only be one of dignity but also one which will be seen and valued for its dignity, high-level honesty, and truthfulness with his second coming.
According to him, President Nana Addo’s government’s performance is abysmal, he added that President Nana Addo has “Benefitted so much”, but sadly has “Shown so little”.
He also accused the ruling party of massaging economic figures to paint a better Ghana picture which is far from the worse reality on the ground. He said: “they are skewing the books to show economic numbers that are better than the reality”.
He promised to provide leadership and a government that is free of “nepotism” where few people in a “systematic” and “state capture” agenda seen in the current NPP government.
The Akufo-Addo’s ministers are useless perception held by the NDC is debatable based on your political affiliations.
